And it's a hard job to write about all that. On one hand, I think it's very realistic, even naturalistic, or ultrarealistic with how fucked up people are and how they behave, how they struggle with their feelings they can't express and how they hurt each other constantly. I very rarely experience something like this with books. So my experience with this book is just like the main characters' relationship which is a proverbial 'on, off, on again dumpster fire'. I picked it again after few weeks and put it away again. I picked it up last year, read a few chapters, and put it away because it gave me a weird, disgusted feeling. "Ok, so this book was rather hard for me to finish. Below is my Goodreads review for reference. I never hate books - it requires a lot of energy to do, that I usually shrug it off. A 'big, important, HBO-series worthy' book that I don't understand why I hate so much.
